City & Guilds has designed the skills proficiency awards to provide a broad introduction to essential practical skills for those undergoing training or employed in these areas of work.

Practical Competences:

  • Carry out safe working practices to prevent hazards and to ensure the safety of working personnel and members of the public.
  • Carry out safe working practices using various equipment/materials to protect surrounding work areas from damage.
  • Carry out safe erection, use and dismantling of simple scaffold platforms less than 2m high.
  • Inspect for faults, set up and safely use steps and ladders in general use.
  • Set up safety barriers around refrigeration and air conditioning hazards to protect working personnel and members of the public.
